Latinx Speculative Fiction—Authors, Stories, and Characters

  • Hyatt Regency Chicago Grand Hall K 151 E Wacker Dr, Chicago IL (map)

(with Isabel Schechter, José Pablo Iriarte, Juan Martinez, and Michael Zapata )

There's an incredible new generation of Latinx SFF writers at work today. We'll talk about our recent favorites in science fiction, fantasy, and horror, and share overlooked gems from the past. It's too large a field to make blanket statements, but we'll discuss how speculative fiction can express the Latinx experience in different national contexts, the impact of translation and multi-lingualism on writing and publishing, and how these writers are informed by magical realism and other traditions. Come ready to add to your "To Be Read" lists!
